Mr. Jauhari’s extensive experience as an Indian Administrative Service (I.A.S.) officer spans 35 years. As a young man, aged 19, he was selected for admission to the esteemed Berkley University in California, US, in 1981, based on his meritorious profile. However, his family circumstances prevented him from taking up the opportunity and he remained in India and decided to serve its people. He cleared the civil services examination while pursuing his Ph.D. at the University of Allahabad and has contributed to the good of society ever since.

The Beginning

He had various field postings in Assam for more than 10 years from 1989 onwards when extremism/terrorism by ULFA and Bodo militants was at its peak. This included approximately 5 years stint as District Magistrate in two districts of Assam. Officers like him made great endeavor and sacrifices to ensure that era of peace and stability dawned in Assam thereafter.

Journey so far….

During his five-year long stint as the Joint Director General of Foreign Trade at the Ministry of Commerce & Industry, Government of India, Mr. Jauhari has been instrumental in shaping the foreign trade and commerce policies of India in close coordination with CII, FICCI, ASSOCHAM, FIEO and various export promotion councils.

Fostering diplomatic relations

The broad overview of his diplomatic journey as an Adviser in the Indian Mission to the European

Union (EU) at the Embassy of India, Brussels gave him an expertise in international relations, trade policy, industrial policy, globalization, and Free Trade Agreement negotiations with the European Union and other foreign embassies. Over the years, he has closely liaised with the EU in the fields of health (National Rural Health Mission (NRHM)), education (Sarva Shiksha Abhiyan (SSA)), economics, finance, trade, and commerce. He was also associated with the merger and acquisition of Arcelor Mittal Steel which is the largest steel producer in the world today.

Transition into leadership

He was on the Board of directors of various PSUs while working as JS, Shipping. He was Adviser in NITI Aayog from October 2018 to March 2022 where he interacted with various leaders and officers dealing with sectors like power, telecommunications, PPP, energy, social sectors, and CSR etc. among others. He has also overlooked the work of sensitive regions like North-East and Jammu & Kashmir. He has handled over 1,00,000 NGOs spread across India in NITI Aayog.

On April 1, 2022, he assumed the position of Chairman & Managing Director at the National

Minorities Development and Finance Corporation.
